About Reflections Eating Disorder Treatment Center - Northern Virginia

Our eating disorder treatment center in Falls Church, Virginia. offers both inpatient and outpatient programs for treatment.

Conditions we treat

Reflections Eating Disorder Treatment Center - Northern Virginia is an independent unit of Dominion Hospital. It is designed to care for you if you are experiencing any number of eating disorders.

Conditions we provide treatment for include:

  • Anorexia nervosa
  • Avoidant-restrictive food intake disorder (ARFID)
  • Binge-eating disorder
  • Bulimia nervosa
  • Pica
  • Other specified feeding and eating disorders (OSFED)

Our program focuses on supporting you with nutritional rehabilitation. While everyone's end goal may be different, our approach to care is always the same: getting you back to living a fun and productive life. We offer intensive psychotherapy and education to provide the necessary tools for overcoming and recovering from eating disorders.

Services we offer

Our multidisciplinary team of specialists is here to treat you nutritionally, physically, psychologically and emotionally. We use the Health at Every Size (HAES) approach to recovery, and you will leave our program with a detailed discharge plan.

Our services include:

  • Exposure therapy
  • Expressive therapy (art, dance, drama, movement, music and yoga)
  • Family therapy and eating disorder education
  • Group therapy (cognitive-behavioral and dialectical behavioral methods)
  • Individual therapy
  • Medication management/psychiatric care
  • Nursing care provided 24/7 to monitor physical and emotional needs
  • Nutrition counseling

Inpatient program

In our inpatient program, a specialized team guides you through the recovery process using an individualized treatment plan. Meal planning and dietetic support are provided, ensuring you have a plan that includes three meals and three snacks each day — with each meal concluding in a support group.

During each day of inpatient care, you participate in therapeutic activities specifically geared toward your treatment plans. These include psychotherapy groups, nutritional groups, expressive therapy, meal planning and psychoeducation.

You meet individually with your therapist at least twice weekly and will also participate in weekly family sessions. On weekends there is additional time set aside for your family to participate in the program.

Partial hospitalization program (PHP)

Like our inpatient program, the PHP is designed to guide you through the recovery process. This program is right for you if you need more support during the day than outpatient therapy can provide, while still being able to go home for the night.

The PHP is available up to 11 hours per day, seven days per week. The program is an easy step down from our inpatient program, and we do our best to make this a smooth transition between levels of care.

Intensive outpatient program (IOP)

The IOP is designed to allow participants the freedom to customize a care plan that accommodates their regular activities, such as work and school. The program is flexible, allowing you to participate anywhere from three to seven days a week. The schedule is centered around meal times in order to accommodate a patient’s clinical and personal needs.

Learn even more about our programs by reading the patient handbook, which includes information about your daily schedule, room accommodations and what to bring.

Access to outpatient care network

Reflections has an extensive outpatient referral network, which includes psychiatrists, therapists, psychologists and registered dietitians. We use this network as a way to provide continuing support if you have completed inpatient or partial hospitalization. We also offer outpatient access if you might not be a candidate for partial hospitalization or inpatient care.

Our treatment center

While both our inpatient and outpatient PHP are combined, they are separated by age group. Those under 18 years old are in one group, while those over 18 years old are in another. No matter your stage of recovery, in these spaces, we allow the group process to work by learning from others and practicing interpersonal relationship dynamics.

Schoolwork support

For children and adolescents, there is an hour dedicated to school each day. If school work will not impede your treatment, you may be able to complete more in any free time. We offer a personal school liaison to coordinate your academic needs and provide treatment recommendations or paperwork required for accommodations.
